Week #47 Year 2009 Ben Millionaire Experience

Sunday, November 29th, 2009

Week 47 Year 2009 is a very busy week. From Monday through Friday, I worked at the office. I can call this life as “wake-up-go-to-work-sleep” life. When I wake up in the morning, I have no choice but to prepare myself and everything for work. When I arrive at the office, I need to work. After office hour, I need to go home and sleep to get some rest. When I wake up in the morning, I need to prepare myself and everything for work again. This weekday activity is boring but I need to do it to earn money for myself and for my family. But for me, this is temporary. Why? While I’m working as employee, I am implementing my plans to be an employer when I reach 30 years old. While I’m young, I am trying the things that I think that will help me to be wealthy. It’s okay if my plans will fail. The important is that I will do something. If I don’t try, I would not know the result of my actions.  I will always learn from my failures and from the failures of others. I already prepared Plan A to Z. I will follow those plans until I can find the best way to be wealthy.

Last Saturday, I was happy for it’s the start of weekend. After the busy weekdays, I went to SM Mega Mall and watched Ninja Assasin. The movie is very nice. I encourage you to watch that movie. :)

TGIF Week 47 Year 2009

Sunday, November 29th, 2009

On November 27, 2009 (Friday),  many of the people(employees) in the office were on vacation leave. In the team where I belong, I was the only one who didn’t file a vacation leave. Though I didn’t have teammates that day, I still did my work.

At 5PM of November 27, 2009, I attended the Java mentoring in our company. We discussed about the Java Standard Tag Library(JSTL). We also discussed about creating Java Custom Tags. I learned those thing from our Java mentor. Our mentoring session ended at 6PM.

From 6PM till midnight, I worked hard and smart. I worked until midnight because I want to start another new task next week. I love what I am doing in the office that’s why it’s okay with me even if I work for long hours. I didn’t notice that it was already midnight. It only means that I really enjoy my work. I enjoy Java programming. :)

Sanctuario De San Pablo website

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

My friend maintains the Sanctuario de San Pablo website.  Sanctuario de San Pablo website is a very nice website but some pictures in that website are not nice so my friend asked me if I could help him to modify the website’s  contents especially the pictures.

Last night, November 25, 2009, I agreed to help him. It was already 9.30PM. I decided to help him for he’s one of my nice friends. We started at around 10PM. At first, I thought I can’t help him because the website was developed using Flash. I don’t have any experience developing website using Flash. But after half-hour or so, I learned how the website was developed. I enjoyed what I was doing that time. I was very happy for I was able to make him happy when I was modifying the website. He was satisfied to the changes I made.

After modifying the website locally, we uploaded all the files affected by our changes to the server. We downloaded and installed Google Chrome browser to check if our changes took effect after uploading the files. Fortunately, the changes took effect. Both of us were happy after modifying the website. We finished the website at 2.45AM.

Right after we finished the website, I went home and slept. I slept for 5 hours. I need to wake up at 9AM or else I’ll be late at the office. What I did last night was so exciting and happy. Happy because I was able to make my friend happy. :)

Java: String.getBytes method sample program

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

String.getBytes

public byte[] getBytes(String charsetName) throws UnsupportedEncodingException

Description:
Encodes this String into a sequence of bytes using the named charset, storing the result into a new byte array. This method is risky and will throw UnsupportedEncodingException if named charset is not supported.

Here’s the sample program I developed:

public class StringByte {
 public static void main(String[] args) {
  String xxx = new String("abc\u00e7");

  byte[] xx;
  try
  {
      xx = xxx.getBytes("UTF8");
   for(int i=0;i<xx.length;i++)
   {
    System.out.println(xx[i]);
   }
   System.out.println("Length of " + xxx + " is: " + xx.length);
  }
  catch(Exception e)
  {

  }

                char[] yyy = xxx.toCharArray();

                for(int i=0;i<yyy.length;i++)
                    System.out.println("Char["+i+"] = " + yyy[i]);
 }
}

Output:

compile and run StringByte.java

compile and run StringByte.java

Greatest Quote From Wallace Wattles (1860-1911)

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

I read a book written by Wallace Wattles. The title of the book is “The Science of Getting Rich”. I can’t forget this quote that I read from his book: “Give every person more in use value than you take from them in cash value”. For me, this is the greatest quote I read from his book.

It means that if you want to be rich, never take money from anyone without giving more in use value than the money you are receiving.

Give more value than the money you are receiving (in your job, in your business, and in every part of your life). In other words, do more than what is paid for.

Another Story for Week 45 Year 2009

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

Last Wednesday, we can’t connect to VPN(Virtual Private Network) at work. I decided to go home for I can’t work without our VPN connection in the office. It was 4PM when I left the office.

When I arrived home, I started to read my Java book and I was able to read 24 pages. I need to keep reading in the succeeding days until I finish that Java book.

Last Thursday, I played basketball with my Accenture friends. Last Friday, I played basketball with Rivereo friends. Rivereo is my second company and Accenture is my third company.

I was tired in my two consecutive nights of basketball game but I’m happy for I know that I have lots of kind friends. I was so excited when my Rivereo friends invited me to play basketball with them. The last time I played basketball with them is in August 2008. That’s one year ago. My game with my Rivereo friends is full of joy for I gathered at least 10 points in one of our games.

TGIF week 46 Year 2009

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

Friday this week is a very nice day. I learned something in my job. The whole day, I worked hard and smart.

At around 4PM, one of my co-workers suggested to buy 30 inches pizza from Niro (company like yellow cab). I decided to join them and we ordered 30 inches pizza. The pizza was delivered in our building. Since we’re in the 23rd floor of the building, my friend Cleigh and I went down to ground floor to get the pizza.

I was amazed when I saw the big pizza. We almost occupied the whole space of the elevator when we went up to 23rd floor. It’s the biggest pizza I’ve ever seen. We brought the 30 inches pizza at the pantry. There we ate the pizza. I think there were 12 people (including me) who contributed to buy that pizza. The pizza is worth 1,200 Philippine peso. Everyone paid 100 philippine peso each. It’s worth it because the pizza is so delicious.

At night, we watched the Twilight – New Moon movie. It’s a very nice movie.

Week #46 Year 2009 Ben Millionaire Experience

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

This week, hottest news here in the Philippines is about the victory of Manny Pacquiao. Pacman defeated Miguel Cotto. Filipinos are very proud of Manny Pacquiao because of another victory.

When we talk about work, I learned many things about Java this week. Our development task about internationalization is fine. Thanks to my Java book for it helped me so I could easily do my tasks in the office. I’m already one year in our project this week. Now that I’m already one year in our project, I could say that I improved my skills a lot. I already know how the system application we maintain works. I feel good whenever I face challenges at the office. There are lots of challenges especially in Java programming. Daily reading of Java book written by Kathy Sierra and Bert Bates is really a big help.

Week #45 Year 2009 Ben Millionaire Experience

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

Last Thursday and Friday, I played basketball with my friends from Accenture and Rivereo, respectively.

I love playing basketball that’s why I confirmed to their invitations. Even if there are lots of tasks at the office, I opted to have a little break and played basketball. I left the office early just to play basketball. But as a good employee, I will add my working hours next week to be fair with my employer.

I’m Away From My Parents

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

Last April 07, 2006, I graduated with the degree of BS Computer Science at Pangasinan State University (Lingayen, Pangasinan, Philippines). After my graduation, I went to Metro Manila, Philippines to hunt for a job.

I left my parents in the province. I needed to leave them for I have to find a job and help them financially. Though I’m away from my parents, I still listen to their advices. I work hard and smart so I could send money to my parents monthly.

I’m very thankful to my parents for they were able to let me finish college. My father worked hard when I was still studying so I could have my allowance everyday. My father is a carpenter and I know how hard to work as a carpenter. It’s almost the same as a construction worker. My mother had no job but she’s the one who prepared our breakfast, lunch and dinner everyday.  She also washed my uniforms when I was still studying.

I have debt of gratitude to my parents. I appreciate their kindness. I visit my parents in the province once a month because I want them to feel that I love them so much. They’re my inspiration in my daily work in the office. :)
