Week #52 Year 2009 Ben Millionaire Experience

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

On December 27, 2009, I went to church. After that, I continued reading my Java book.

On December 28, 2009, I stayed at home. I continued reading my Java book again. I was able to read 60 pages of my book.

On December 29, 2009, I met my former teacher Rolando J. Andico and other friends (Fredace Ferrer, Rexell Perez, and Saud). We had short conversations at Rolando’s house then we played billiards. We also sang in an eatery where there’s a videoke machine.

Rolando J. Andico was my best adviser when I was in college. He taught me what to learn in order to easily get a great job. He advised me to learn Oracle SQL, Linux, PHP, MySQL, HTML, and XML. I love this teacher for he showed great kindness to me when I was a college student.

From December 30, 2009 to January 01, 2010, I stayed at home and enjoyed every minute of my vacation. I celebrated new year with my family and other relatives.

On January 01, 2010 7:30PM, I left our house and I went back to Metro Manila. I arrived at Cubao, Quezon City, Metro Manila at 12 midnight January 02, 2010. I arrived at my boarding house at 12.30AM. I slept at 1AM and I woke up at 9AM. I took a bath and I cleaned my room.

I enjoyed this last week of year 2009. Thank you for year 2009 was a great year for me and for my family. :)

Week #51 Year 2009 Ben Millionaire Experience

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

Last Sunday, I went to church early. After that, I went to my boarding house to read my books and I took rest. In Sunday afternoon, I met my Highway Hills friends somewhere and I received gifts from them. My friends at Highway Hills greeted me an advance happy birthday.

From Monday to Wednesday, I went to office to continue my work. I was very grateful for I was able to finish my tasks last Tuesday. Last Wednesday, I took required online trainings in our company.

Last Friday morning, I went to our province in Pangasinan. I was very happy for I arrived safe in our house and I saw my parents and my sister.

Last Saturday, I celebrated my birthday. When I woke up in Saturday morning, my mother, my father and my sister were the first persons  who greeted me personally. In Saturday afternoon, I met my classmates and my batchmates in high school. I was very happy to see them (though not all my classmates were there). Some of my high school classmates were already married. Some of them have babies. One of my classmates brought her 10-month old baby girl when we met in Lingayen, Pangasinan.

My birthday on this year was very happy. This year has the greatest number of people who greeted me. I believe that next year, there will be more people who will greet me on my 2010 birthday.

Week #50 Year 2009 Ben Millionaire Experience

Sunday, December 20th, 2009

Week 50 Year 2009 is a very challenging week. I’ve been very busy at work. Our tasks’ deadline was on December 18, 2009. Unfortunately, our deadline was not met because there were additional modules that we need to work on. We are doing our very best to finish the tasks by December 23, 2009. I always try to work at least 9 hours in a day to finish my tasks. I do this because I want to deliver high quality of service. I don’t care if they will pay me for over-time or not. What I really care is to give my best to deliver the service the company expects from me.

This week, my social life is happy. I made my friend happy for I was able to help him in his thesis. I helped him in Java programming. We tested the Sockect class in Java. It’s about writing codes that transfer files/data through the network. I’m very happy if I made other people happy.

Week #49 Year 2009 Ben Millionaire Experience

Saturday, December 12th, 2009

From Monday to Friday, I worked hard in the office. Our development task is almost done. We are on the stage of implementing some review comments from our US counterparts.

Last Thursday, I conducted a brownbag about the application that we maintain. My brownbag is about the Data Model of the said application. It’s all about the technical side of the application. I taught how the batch scripts call the stored procedures and functions in Oracle. I introduced what Oracle tables are involved in the application.

Week #48 Year 2009 Ben Millionaire Experience

Saturday, December 5th, 2009

November 30, 2009 is a non-working holiday in the Philippines. Since it was holiday, I enjoyed that day. I watched again the “Flight of the Phoenix” movie.

On December 01, 2009, it’s back to reality. Back to work. I was again alone in our team. My Team Lead was on vacation leave and my other teammate was on sick leave. We are composed of 3 members in the team. We maintain a Java GUI application. We also maintain batch scripts in UNIX/LINUX. We also do PL/SQL programming because most the batch scripts call the Oracle PL/SQL stored procedures and functions.

There were review points from our counterparts in the US to the codes that I checked-in last Friday. Since I was alone in the team, I addressed those review points. I immediately fixed those small bugs. I sent email to our US counterpart and I was very thankful because our counterpart was satisfied to my service. If I’m at work, my main goal is to render a high quality service to our clients.

Today is Saturday. It’s weekend. I’m very happy for after four days of work, we have two days rest. I’m just here in my boarding house. I’m writing more blog posts. I just love writing stories about the things that happen in my life and to my environment. I plan to go to mall this afternoon to observe the people outside my small room.

Week #47 Year 2009 Ben Millionaire Experience

Sunday, November 29th, 2009

Week 47 Year 2009 is a very busy week. From Monday through Friday, I worked at the office. I can call this life as “wake-up-go-to-work-sleep” life. When I wake up in the morning, I have no choice but to prepare myself and everything for work. When I arrive at the office, I need to work. After office hour, I need to go home and sleep to get some rest. When I wake up in the morning, I need to prepare myself and everything for work again. This weekday activity is boring but I need to do it to earn money for myself and for my family. But for me, this is temporary. Why? While I’m working as employee, I am implementing my plans to be an employer when I reach 30 years old. While I’m young, I am trying the things that I think that will help me to be wealthy. It’s okay if my plans will fail. The important is that I will do something. If I don’t try, I would not know the result of my actions.  I will always learn from my failures and from the failures of others. I already prepared Plan A to Z. I will follow those plans until I can find the best way to be wealthy.

Last Saturday, I was happy for it’s the start of weekend. After the busy weekdays, I went to SM Mega Mall and watched Ninja Assasin. The movie is very nice. I encourage you to watch that movie. :)

Week #46 Year 2009 Ben Millionaire Experience

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

This week, hottest news here in the Philippines is about the victory of Manny Pacquiao. Pacman defeated Miguel Cotto. Filipinos are very proud of Manny Pacquiao because of another victory.

When we talk about work, I learned many things about Java this week. Our development task about internationalization is fine. Thanks to my Java book for it helped me so I could easily do my tasks in the office. I’m already one year in our project this week. Now that I’m already one year in our project, I could say that I improved my skills a lot. I already know how the system application we maintain works. I feel good whenever I face challenges at the office. There are lots of challenges especially in Java programming. Daily reading of Java book written by Kathy Sierra and Bert Bates is really a big help.

Week #45 Year 2009 Ben Millionaire Experience

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

Last Thursday and Friday, I played basketball with my friends from Accenture and Rivereo, respectively.

I love playing basketball that’s why I confirmed to their invitations. Even if there are lots of tasks at the office, I opted to have a little break and played basketball. I left the office early just to play basketball. But as a good employee, I will add my working hours next week to be fair with my employer.

Week #44 Year 2009 Ben Millionaire Experience

Sunday, November 1st, 2009

Last October 26, 2009, I greeted my mother via SMS for it’s her 53rd birthday. She’s so very happy for I did not forget her birthday. I’m far from my family. I’m here in Metro Manila while they’re in Pangasinan. I visit them once a month. I’m very thankful for my mother. When I was still studying in elementary, high school and college, she always supported me in everything I do. Whenever I study at night, she always prepare a glass of milk for me. I appreciate her kindness as a great mother. When I’m sick, she’s always there to watch me and she can’t even sleep at night. Now that I’m away from her, she sends me SMS almost everyday to check my condition. That’s how my mother loves me.

From October 26 to 30, I worked at the office. I had many tasks last week. We are doing Internationalization in Java. My accomplishment for this week is that I was able to finish my task specifically about DateFormat. I’ll be very busy until the end of December to do the Internationalization in Java. This would be a great experience that will enhance my skills in Java programming. I always say this sentence everyday “Everyday, in every way, I’m getting better and better”.

I’m very happy last week for I was able to read 25 pages of my Java book. I read 5 pages a day. Even if I was busy at work, I still gave time to read my Java books for I know that the lessons I learned from my book would help me to do my tasks efficiently.

Week #43 Year 2009 Ben Millionaire Experience

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

Starting this week, I’ll be posting my weekly blogs about my life experiences.

I’ve been very busy in the past few days. From Monday to Friday, I slept for only 6 hours a day. I have so many tasks in the office. I’m a Java, Oracle PL/SQL, and UNIX developer. I worked for at least nine hours a day from 10AM to 8.30PM with 1.5 hours break.

In the past days, I was doing Internationalization of hard-coded strings in Java. It’s a bit difficult but challenging. So far, I enjoy my work for I really love Java programming. Everyday, I learn new things in the office. That’s what motivates me to go to office everyday.

Now, it’s weekend. It’s time to take rest to prepare for another 5 days work next week. I spend my free time with my friends. I also spend my time in blogging like what I’m doing right now. :)
